Malaysia towards towards a greener nation

After all the hype about emission free & hybrid vehicles, our very local car manufacturer, Proton has developed their very own Proton Emas. Nevertheless, they have put in much effort to create a car which is more of a green family car and less fuel consuming. This step taken has in a way has made car manufacturers to have a run for their money. Unveiled at the 80th International Motor Show in Geneva, the car was designed by Lotus Engineering with the platform of Nissan's V platform.

The powerplant of the concept car is a Lotus Range Extender Engine, which is a mix of electric & combustion engine(petrol or diesel). The car has a range of 50km on electric and once it dries up, the combustion engine will kick in. The engine is a very simple 1.2 liter 3 cylinder single cam engine with only 2 valves per cylinder. The electric motor will only need to be charged for 3hrs, and you're off again with a mileage of 50km. Its engine is located at the rear end while the battery is at the front which gives it a better weight distribution. A revised version has allowed enough room for five poeple sit inside comfortably.

Set to be released within another 18 mths, the Proton Emas would be a hit since petrol price is rocketing skyhigh recently. A lot of critics has given their verdict(mostly good ones). Let us keep our fingers crossed to hope the best out Proton on their latest concept, Proton Emas and make our first step to go green! And the name, EMAS, meaning “gold” in Malay, is the acronym for Eco Mobility Advanced Solutions.
